H T T O YO U BY T H E M D O F LES S ER S LAVE R I VER no . 1 24 4 WEED CONTROL PROGRAM UPDATE 2018 Inspection Program We are pleased to report that all Agricultural staff, received effective and positive cooperation from municipal residents and producers. A considerable amount of technical information and control measures were discussed, that resulted in a very successful 2018 weed control program. Weed species targeted were: Scentless Chamomile, White Cockle, Tall Buttercup, Oxeye Daisy, Orange Hawkweed and Himalayan Balsam. Orange Hawkweed and Himalayan Balsam were only found in a select number of sites, and we believe they can be eradicated from our MD by persistent control methods. In total, 424 formal inspections were carried out, and numerous other contacts were made throughout the summer season with landowners and other agencies. Weed Control Partnership Program (WCPP) Overall, the WCPP was well received by area residents and utilized positively to control Prohibited Noxious and Noxious weed species on rangeland, pasture and hay lands, fence lines and other non-crop land areas. • 15 producers/landowners partnered with the MD under the WCPP Rebate Component. • 760 acres were treated for the destruction of Prohibited Noxious weeds and control of Noxious weeds • Rebates issued to date are approximately $14,500.00 17 producers/landowners benefited by taking advantage of the WCPP Extension Component. • Received hand held sprayers with herbicide to spot treat areas for the destruction of Prohibited Noxious weeds and control of Noxious weeds Those interested in participating in the WCPP Survey are invied to contact the MD sub-office at 780.681.3929 or Toll-Free 1.866.681.3929.
