Matt Southey of club sponsor Ask About Mortgages recently spoke to
Rugby Club Magazine, saying, “I played a lot of my rugby in the Royal Navy
starting from my early to late twenties and naturally became involved with
the club on my return home. My usual playing position was blind side flanker
and last season was very enjoyable coaching the lads who I have to say gave
their all and were excellent from a standpoint of attitude and determination.
More recently I have taken my son William, who is eight years old and a
future England captain, down to try out for the minis and it was great to see
the club’s Director of Rugby Richard Wood taking such an interest. This I
think epitomises Romsey Rugby Club and their natural inclusiveness and
interest in maintaining a one club mentality. Many of the seniors have come
through the ranks; a vital part of any developing club wishing to sustain
itself.
