denbridge RFC has been working hard to bring in a one club
mentality in recent times. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught
up with Club Representative Jamie Fitzroy to find out more about how
their progress has been coming along.
Involvement
He told us, “I started playing at Edenbridge in
my last year at school 1983! In fact, I was the
youngest ever tourist playing rugby in
France then coming home to do my
O levels. I am not sure I should
be saying that. My parents were
very understanding.
I suppose what attracted
me to the club was that I could
play rugby for my home town
and the people there were
very welcoming and it felt like
home. At the moment the most
challenging part of my role is
finding volunteers. The most
rewarding thing is seeing young
players progress through the age
groups and into the Seniors.”
Present
“The general mood is good at the club at the moment.
We have an increasing momentum around the “one

club” vision we bought in two years ago. This has seen
greater involvement of the Senior players with the
Juniors.
Overall, we had a pretty steady season
last time around. There was quite a
few injuries in the seniors around
Christmas which affected our
results but we hope to be back
at full strength next year. It was
great to see a number of our old
Academy players stepping up
and playing for the Seniors
this year. We are looking
forward to seeing more
coming through the ranks next
season. Our Youth and Minis
have lost a few numbers but we
are actively recruiting over the
summer so hope to provide rugby
to many more kids in all age grades.”

“The 2019/20 season will be one which builds on
