Upminster FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Upminster RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB U pminster RFC enjoyed a fine season last time around as their first XV claimed a league title. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their Director of Rugby Scott Murphy to find out more about how the club has been getting along lately. Involvement He told us, “Having initially started my playing career at the club at the age of 5, I played my age group and Senior rugby at Upminster before taking on the 1st XV coach role. Following a coaching spell at Cambridge and Chingford, I returned to the club as Director of Rugby in July 2016. For me, the attraction is the potential that is available at the club’s disposal - hosting one of the largest Mini and Youth sections within Essex the opportunity for the club to progress and develop the younger players Sports Injury Management For management of: Spinal Complaints Injury Recovery Hip Complaints Knee Complaints Foot & Ankle Complaints Head & Neck Complaints Shoulder Complaints Elbow, Wrist & Hand Complaints Rehabilitation From Surgery Proud Sponsors of Upmister RFC Call to book: 07941 546422 www.upminsterosteo.com 53 Eversleigh Gardens, Upminster, Essex, RM14 1DP 24 Issue 87 is a big motivation. The Challenging aspects come with any role involved within the rugby environment. For me, player/coach development is always a challenge but when it works the rewards are huge!” Atmosphere “The mood at the club is very good at the moment, lots of members within the Mini section, the Youth section is going from strength to strength - every age group played in a County Cup final, and the current U16’s played in their 3rd consecutive Essex Cup Final Andy Lay spoke recently to Rugby Club Magazine, telling us, “a friend of mine invited me down to the club and that’s how I became involved and when the physio moved on I moved in so to speak. I remember my first role was at the Juniors National Shield Final in 2006 and I have been there ever since. I can’t speak highly enough about the many great people the club are fortunate to have running things off and on the pitch and their level of inclusiveness is second to none. I was even given the chance to make my debut recently at age 52 and was told off in the same game for apologising in the scrum; something that is not done apparently,” he said laughing. Andy continued, “It’s apparent the effort that is put in by players, coaches and members alike is of great value to our local community and Upminster Osteo are proud to do our bit in sponsoring the club. I wish everyone associated with Upminster Rugby Club the very best of success for the 2019/2020 campaign!”
