RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
Hereford RFC has been working hard to progress during the
Summer months and is doing a fine job of creating a one club
mentality. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their
PR Officer Joanne Robinson to find out more about how the
club has been getting along.
Involvement
Joanne told us, “I consider myself to be a mere
fledging compared to some of the members that sit on
the committee, but I have been involved with Hereford
Rugby Club since 2013 when my son joined the Under
14’s. His grandfather and uncle had played for the
Club in previous years and my brother was part of the
coaching squad for his age group. Joining the Club was
the best decision ever and I will be forever grateful for
the lifetime friends I have made because of this beautiful
game.”
The Role
“My role has changed and increased over the years
moving from the junior section into the seniors. As
with most clubs up and down the country we rely on
volunteers to keep the Club maintained and running
and then the support of local companies to provide
sponsorship and utilise advertising space at the Club so
that we can afford the day to day costs involved.
Money is tight for everyone at the moment and this
presents its own challenges when company budgets are
being cut. The winning is great but just knowing that the
boys have faced the game ahead of them and played the
best they could and that I have been a small part in the
logistics of getting them there is enough for me!”
Atmosphere
“The general mood at the Club is good at the moment;
we have had a few activities going on over the summer
off season months which will bring the Club together
and everyone signed up to engage and join in with these,
the first was the Natwest Rugby Force Working day
when we carried out some of the maintenance tasks that
can be best achieved off-season. It’s not all work and no
play though for our members as we also have an annual
Golf Day which is now into its 28th year and also, we
held a Summer Ball in July.”
Present
“Across the whole Club we’ve had another good
year! The Mini section goes from strength to strength as
they move through the age grade. In the Junior Section
our U13’s came away from Bournemouth as Festival
Winners. The Colts squad had a tricky start to the year
due to small numbers but they dug deep throughout
