Irvine
Hamish Walker has had a long and positive
association with Irvine Rugby Club. He recently
spoke to Rugby Club Magazine, saying, “I started
playing in the club’s mini section around the
age of 8 and progressed to senior rugby mainly
in the number 6 position up until my mid-
thirties, having the honour of captaining the
team on a few occasions.
During my career I was proud to be part
of a very good and successful U18s team who
are still close friends today. My dad James also
played a game or two for Irvine when he was
shanghaied on a tour to France one year but
played most of his rugby at Marr as an effective
2nd row player.
My business J Walker Builders have
sponsored the club on and off for more than
three decades now and we like to help out
when we can. The club’s 1st XV and very
importantly 2nd XV are playing some great
rugby this year and I would like to wish
everyone associated with Irvine Rugby Club
the very best of continued success for many
seasons to come!”
“I originate from Kilwinning and started playing for the club
at age 15, initially as a winger before progressing to the back
row. I have played rugby as far afield as South Africa and for
clubs in England including London Irish.
I also supported and helped with the agreements between
the South African and British High Commission to help
underprivileged kids in Pretoria through education and
accommodation and an access to sport.
I was part of the great Irvine U18s team who are all still in
contact with each other and who will meet at the Hong
Kong 7s in April. I will be forever grateful to the guys at Irvine
RFC for giving me game time and supporting me whilst I
visited my father who sadly passed away.

I have been a principal club sponsor since 2003 and love to
help out when I can. Irvine RFC also put together a team
including Nicky Tyrone Little, the Fiji international fly-half
and Mark Robertson, between them they had amassed 95
caps, what an amazing feet for a little club like Irvine.
The friendships and bonds I have made over the years
through rugby have been invaluable and I am delighted
that my son Fergus is also a lover of the sport and maybe
one day will play for his beloved Scotland.”
