Ashford FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Kent Vase Cup competition. We want to build on this and plan to run an additional XV in one of the Kent leagues next season, providing more opportunities for young players in particular to experience senior rugby. We want to offer playing opportunities for all, to encourage healthy competition for places, and ensure that it is above all else fun. Our aim is that every player enjoys pulling on an Ashford shirt.” Ashford are also looking to strengthen its women’s rugby, with an ambition of running two senior sides. To support this, the club is also developing its offer to girls with age group teams at Under 13, 15 and 18 levels as stepping stones to senior rugby. “There is increasing interest in the sport among girls and women, and we want to provide a pathway for those emerging from our Minis to continue their development, as well as for anyone new to the sport. The club recently hosted a Girls Fun Day that proved very popular and provided some twenty girls with their first exposure to the sport. A larger follow-up event is being planned for September as a season opener.” “We are a community club providing rugby opportunities for all ages and genders,” he said. “In a town that is growing rapidly in the next two decades, we have a great opportunity to use our status as the largest playing membership sports club in Ashford to provide opportunities for youngsters and adults to enjoy their sport and a healthy lifestyle and be part of a wider community. We aim to create a welcoming environment that encourages more and more people to get involved with the club, whether as players or in off-field capacities. “As Chairman, my focus is on ensuring we are ready for the immediate issues as well as taking a longer term look at our direction of travel. Next season will provide a challenge for all our senior sides, but the mood in the camp is upbeat and we look forward to what September brings. “Across the wider club, we will look to maintain our efforts to improve our standards and challenge ourselves to do better, whilst not overlooking the fun element. And particularly in a Rugby World Cup year, we will be looking at ways of promoting the sport more widely in our community and drawing in more people to enjoy what rugby has to offer.” Working with YOU, not just for YOU Tax planning • Profit improvement strategies • Business development advice • Inheritance tax advice • Succession planning • Payroll • Get in touch now to arrange your free consultation www.mageegammon.com Half Page.indd 88 MG Issue 86 1 01233 630000 [email protected] 04/06/2019 10:07:33
