Sevenoaks FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Sevenoaks RUGBY CLUB Sevenoaks Rugby Club enjoyed a fantastic season this time around with their first team being crowned London 1 South Division Champions. From the Minis all the way up to the Academy and including their Under 13s and Under 15s Girls, the Juniors also enjoyed an outstanding season. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their President Michael Wooldridge to gain an insight into their success. He told us, “My father played for the Club in the 1950s and I first played in the 1980s and my son joined the juniors in the 2000s – all at scrum half! I was attracted by the fact that it was an incredibly friendly family club, which we like to believe it still is.” “The most challenging aspect of my role at the Club is to remain amateur in an ever increasingly professional game and keeping a limit on players stash! The most rewarding is being proud to be successful as an amateur club both on and off the pitch and seeing our ‘one club’ philosophy shining through. “Given the results at both junior and senior level, the mood is incredible with optimism for the forthcoming season. The results of the Club speak for themselves. There has been strong leadership from our Chairman and the management team and the Director of Rugby and Head Coach have brought about a very strong coaching team. The coaching at all levels is second to none for a club at our level. The ‘one club’ philosophy, i.e. valuing those at under 5s through to over 90s in the same respectful way has created success and most importantly enjoyment for all. “Our plan for the senior squad is to consolidate in level 5 (old national 3) and to retain and grow a squad with David Johnson has enjoyed a positive association for many years with the Sevenoaks Rugby Club. He told us, “As main club sponsors, Savills are keen to help out in any way they can to support community initiatives. As a sponsor we benefit from the exposure and have an arrangement with the club where we offer cash back rewards to the club for everyone who sells a property through us. Our relationship with the club has very much gone beyond this arrangement. I frequent the club when I can feel very comfortable, dropping in on my own as the welcome is always a friendly one. Sevenoaks is very much a family orientated club and this is epitomised by the volume of children on a Sunday morning. As principal sponsors, Savills are very proud of our connections and ability to help the club in the light of this outstanding and magnificent season. I would like to wish everyone at the club the biggest congratulations on their success born I’m sure out of lots of hard work and am hoping that Sevenoaks RFC continue to make history as the club continues to flourish!” 66 Issue 86
