Marlborough Rugby Football Club
(MRFC) is a club with a long history
– being linked to the original 1871
founding of the sport – making
MRFC one of only 21 clubs in the
country who can make this claim.
With this long history, Compeed
and HRA Pharma have been proud
to support the Club as it continues
to plan for the future. The decision to
partner with MRFC was an obvious
one for Compeed, as the UK’s leading
blister plaster brand, because sports
are a key cause of blisters.
Compeed has therefore signed
a three-year sponsorship deal with
MRFC, which enabled the Club to
provide a free shirt to every playing
member in the first 2018/19 season.
New post protectors and flags have
also been donated and Compeed
is also one of two sponsors of the
annual fundraising Summer Ball, to
be held at Marlborough College in
June this year.
HRA Pharma’s CEO, David Wright,
is a local man who has been involved
with MRFC for over twenty years. As
a former professional rugby player
himself, he knows the importance
of local community clubs to the
56 Issue 86
game. His own son, Jack, began
playing rugby at MRFC minis where
he developed his love of the game,
and now he has a semi-professional
contract of his own.
David’s passion for the game and
commitment to MRFC, saw him
become the Club President in 2014,
a role he continues today. His vision
and ambition for the Club’s future
is shared by the fellow Committee
members, who continue to support
the club with both their time and
often their own generous financial
contributions also.
David shared why MRFC has a
lot to be proud of, “MRFC is a very
special Club. Whilst Marlborough is
only a small market town, we have
over 250 juniors and minis, making
us the largest sports group in the
town. Our first team has had a
strong first season and is the highest
placed team in Wiltshire. Our second
team has achieved promotion and
we have a new 7’s team playing
at an elite level. We have plans to
develop further as a Club. Through
our sponsors and local benefactors
like myself, we will invest to ensure
we achieve even greater success in
the coming years.”
