Henley FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Henley RUGBY CLUB Henley Rugby Club continues to play a vital role in their community. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with Club Representative Alistair Beynon to find out more about how they have been getting along lately. Involvement The Role He told us, “I’ve been involved with the Club for over two years now. I used to work in the Commercial department for Wasps going back nearly ten years. This was back in the days when the Club was based at Adams Park in High Wycombe. At that time, Wasps played it’s A League (2nd XV games) at Henley on Monday nights, so I’ve always known about Henley Rugby Club and been impressed with the set-up. When the opportunity came along to head up the Commercial and Marketing operation, I jumped at the chance as I’d been out of the sport for a long time, and wanted to get back involved. The Club have recently built a new Clubhouse and Changing rooms and is very forward thinking and dynamic, something that also really attracted me to the role.” “Being a very small team here, you get used to having to deal with tasks that wouldn’t ordinarily be part of your remit. However, we have a fantastic group of volunteers at the Club who are always extremely helpful and go out of their way to support me. Every day is very different, and always presents new challenges and opportunities. I love that the Club is such an important part of the local community, and seeing people coming down on a Saturday afternoon and enjoying the Match Day experience is hugely gratifying.” Atmosphere “The general mood here is very positive. We had a difficult 2017/18 season in which we saw a change in the coaching set-up for the Hawks, but the players and staff “We opened our business in 2012 and have sponsored the club ever since. I’m now on the fundraising committee and help with their events including the beer festivals, quizzes, dinners etc. I became involved with the club as a player many years ago. I was a winger and although I no longer have time to play I still get to the games when I can and the performances have been excellent. We are proud to be associated with the club and would like to congratulate them on this season and wish everyone involved the best of luck for the future.” Laurence Morris 50 Issue 86
