You’re the main link between them playing rugby forever or giving up and doing very little else or computers. Maintaining a positive attitude when things are not going to plan in training or being tested to the limit with some parents can be difficult, but this can’t then be passed onto the children. The organisation that goes on behind the scenes from fixture sec, managers, coaches with arranging where, when and how is non-stop. I couldn’t be prouder of the support each and every coach gives their respective team out of their own personal time and unpaid. We have coaches at junior level that don’t have their own children playing but still turn up to coach. Rugby can and does take over your life if you let it. But it’s great to see on a Sunday four pitches of children from 3 to 16 all enjoying playing a great sport. There’s politics in any club and we all just have to do what’s best for the club and the players and keep going.” It’s a relatively young senior squad being coached by John Bryant and Liam Scott. There is definitely a positive vibe in the club and it’s all down to the boys now to keep pushing until the end and fingers crossed promotion.” Atmosphere The Summer “The club is currently enjoying the Six Nations, we always attempt to draw old and new members into the club so that it continues to grow. There’s always a great following from the mini and Junior section and it’s important to encourage them to use the club and feel part of its family, they’re the future and have to be supported as best as possible.” “Fingers crossed for a nice break over the summer, a bit of touch and pass to keep up the fitness and enjoy the summer evenings. There’s always so much work to do with the development of age groups each year, new laws and skills need to be learnt and applied ready to go for the new season.” 2018/19 The seniors had a really good season pushing for promotion to division 1. This would be the best achievement that the club would have achieved in its history and hopefully I am able to see that happen and be part of the team, before I hang up my boots. There’s a great squad from 1st, 2nds and vets. Youth “Youth rugby is a big step in the development for senior rugby. But, like most sports we struggle to retain players. Work, schooling and other interests take over. We also find that your competing with colleges for players once they hit 16-17. We just have to do our best to make it attractive and maintain the numbers. There are several clubs in and around the Vale of Glamorgan which are all competing for the same players. “I became involved with the club since 1979 as a youth player. I played as a hooker until 2016 with some breaks in between, eventually stopping due to my age. As a company we have sponsored the club for a long time and I still get along to home and away games. The performances have been very good and I wish them all the best for the future and in Division 1 next season. It is a really family orientated club and everyone is provided with a warm welcome. I love the club atmosphere and as a company we will continue to be right behind the team.” Charlie Chucas 44 Issue 86
