Northwich Ian & Diane Johnson have had a long and positive association with Northwich Rugby Club, they are also the parents of Greg and Amy Johnson, who both played for the club in their formative years. Although Greg was an excellent player, he decided to hang up his boots in this late teen’s, it was Amy who whilst being a sporting allrounder, would carry on with her love of rugby. Ian recently told Rugby Club Magazine, “I have to say that if it wasn’t for the positive influence of John Blower and Chris Hart, coaching both my children, I’m not sure they would have become the rounded successful individuals they are today. I was brought up with football, but these days I am more of a fan of rugby. As well as the general etiquette you get with rugby, I feel the attributes it teaches, gives you much more than just physical and health benefits. The discipline and respect coached into my children is evident with them both today and has helped give them good foundations for life. Amy started her rugby career in Union at the age of 3 and ½ years of age, she played for numerous North West sides and represented both her County and the North West. After leaving University Amy settled in Leeds and continued playing at West Park, as the rules for being included in the England Union squad changed and she would have had to play for a Premiership side, this was not possible due to the extent of travel and holding down a job. Whilst playing for Leeds West Park, Bradford Bulls asked Amy to play for them in the Union closed season, shortly after Leeds Rhino’s came in for her as a forward and she decided to switch to League, which proved a good move, as she later had her England call up, which culminated in her International debut against France and she has been named in the 2019 England performance squad, Amy is now in a strong position to be among those chosen to be in England’s squad for the 2021 World Cup. Both Ian & Diane are rightly proud of Amy, Diane feels all those Sunday’s taking Amy to Rugby grounds which after the boys had finished, had no facilities for the girls, standing watching in the freezing cold has all been worth it. We have always been grateful to Northwich RUFC for giving Amy her love of the game and starting her rugby career and 20 years on our business Eric Johnson of Northwich Ltd are keen to continue our help and support for this great club. We shall always be grateful to the dedication of both John Blower and Chris Hart to the club and to our family, both great examples of fine human beings! Best wishes to all.” Electrical Engineers and Contractors in Cheshire We have been providing quality Electrical Installations for over 70 years! • Electrical Installation • Structured Cabling • Design & Estimating • High Voltage Cabling For all domestic, commercial and industrial electrical services please contact us today. 01606 892444 www.ejn-ltd.co.uk Ash House, Ash House Lane, Little Leigh, Northwich, Cheshire CW8 4RG www.rugbyclubmag.com 25
