Nantgaredig FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG “I have strong Welsh roots and family connections with the club; my dad hailed from Cardiganshire and my cousin played and was heavily involved with Nantgaredig over many years. I have a home in the area and spend much time there usually attending six to ten games a season. I am the club’s Honorary President and very much enjoy my responsibility as the club’s AGM. Coaches Tomas & Derek have gained the respect of their players and taken the team to the top of their league, undefeated and in some style! This proudly amateur club have a plethora of stalwarts who tirelessly put their heart and soul into this little village club, to name a few like Bryan Phillips who is an administrative genius and Hugh Harries who continues to encourage everyone tirelessly! The people of Nantgaredig have built this club themselves and one of the key factors is that they have built the foundations on the firm bedrock of making sure everything on and off the pitch is sustainable. The formation of a second team has cemented this sustainability, demonstrated in one of the last games of the season against Betws when missing key players were replaced easily and effectively from the squad’s depth. If you visit the club after matches it is very difficult to distinguish between 1st and 2nd team players because of the camaraderie, their truly is no divide! I have to say that although I am involved with other sports and senior rugby clubs, Nantgaredig RFC brings a special joy to me and I am particularly proud of everyone for all their achievements both on and off the pitch, well done!” David Owen “I am a proud sponsor of the club; having been born and bred locally I have followed them for many years. These days I rarely miss a game and am delighted with what they have achieved for club and village. For such a small village they punch above their weight and have a great following of supporters who travel with them. The club facilities have been given a lot of attention recently which all helps in making the club a pleasant environment and makes for a great day out whilst watching the rugby. Everyone wishes Stuart Phillips all the best as he moves onto his new club at Llandelo. Next season offers many great local fixtures which I am thoroughly looking forward to. Best wishes to everyone and good luck as they head towards another season, and as the club proudly displays “Teilu Nant.” Eirian Davies 14 Issue 85
