“I’ve played for the club for thirteen
years playing; I live up the road from
the rugby club, was bored of playing
football so though I’d try out rugby.
There are many challenges involved
in a rugby club, including juggling on
and off field roles. The most rewarding
thing is seeing more kids attracted to
the game and coming to the club. It is
great seeing more kids down watching
the lads play on a Saturday at Malleny,
seeing so many become members and
turning out to their training sessions,
games and Tournaments every Sunday,
42 Issue 74
and also attending the rugby camps we
run. The summer camps we ran in July
and August have seen over 140 kids
attend over three camps which is great!
The mood is fantastic with well
over 30 lads attending each training
session during the preseason stages.
After bringing in a new Strength and
Conditioning coach, Andy Barnett,
before we started preseason training,
the boys are getting stronger, fitter and
feeling the benefits from it. We have had
a lot of tough sessions up at Malleny
with Andy but we have also travelled
down to Gullane beach to tackle the sand
Dunes and to Arthur’s Seat.
The off-season has been good. The
clubhouse, changing rooms and physio
room have had a revamp and a lick
of paint, we have built a new Gym in
the changing rooms to help with our
S&C and to help our Currie Chieftains
Academy players develop.
The senior Boys feel rested and ready
for the new season ahead. We have new
faces joining the team, great numbers
at training and all the boys are working
really hard for the new season. Behind
