Croesyceiliog RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB

Based on Woodlands Road in Gwent , Croesyceiliog RFC enjoyed a season to remember last time around as they clinched promotion as league champions .

Their first team compiled a record of nineteen wins , a draw and two defeats from their twenty two league matches . This saw them finish top of the table with ninety one points on the board .
They will now turn their attentions towards preparing for the 2017 / 18 campaign in a higher division . As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality additions to strengthen the squad they should have nothing to fear .
One of the highlights of the team ’ s performances this season was the attacking brand of rugby that they were able to produce . This was reflected by the fact that they racked up seventy four tries at a rate of more than three per game .
This will certainly have meant that any supporters attending their matches will have been well entertained and should encourage more of the local community to get behind the side in the future . This in turn has the potential to provide them with a valuable source of additional revenue which is particularly important in the current financial climate .
Rugby Club Magazine was keen to find out more about the good work being carried out at the club and with this in mind we recently caught up with Representative Robert Deakin . He told us , “ I have been involved with the club for 46 years and was attracted by the open rugby that the team played having moved to Croesyceiliog after getting married .”
“ The most rewarding aspect of my role is to see the young players progress to hopefully play in the first XV .
“ The general mood at the club is one of excitement after winning the league last season and possibly a little trepidation as to what awaits us in Division 1 .
“ The success last season was due to playing as a team , the boys motto being , ‘ All together all the time .’ ATATT . The plan now is to consolidate our position in Division 1 .
David Bendon of club sponsor D . Bendon Construction recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive association with Croesyceiliog Rugby Club , telling us , “ My brother Steve and I both played 2nd row for the club back in 2005 ; we had a great run then and were able to help the club go from Division 5 to Division 2 . Steve still coaches the juniors down at the club .
It was great that the boys achieved a promotion to Division 1 last season and having lost two of their key players they are going to have to stick together . Division 1 is a tougher league and it may be a case of surviving for the 1st season and then looking to build . As I say Crosyceiliog Rugby Club have a good group of lads down there and if they keep their feet on the ground I ’ m sure they will compete well next season !”
