Portsmouth RUGBY CLUB
Portsmouth Rugby Club was first established in 1886 following a merger between Victoria Football Club and Southsea Football Club and has gone on to put together a history of which they have every right to be proud . Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their Director of Rugby James Pearce to find out more about how the club is currently getting along .
Present
He told us , “ The atmosphere has been buoyant lately as we build towards the new season . Unfortunately , last season wasn ’ t the greatest due to relegation from London 2 South West to London 3 South West .
The main plan for the 2017 / 18 season is to get smiles on faces , people enjoying their rugby and wanting to play for each other . The club as a whole will benefit from having a united front and the new coaching team are implementing new ideas through all the senior men ’ s teams at the moment . This will help with the transition between teams and those playing well and training hard will be rewarded by playing in higher teams in the club .”
Youth
“ Youth rugby is massive for us . Sunday mornings are thriving with 350- 400 children in the mini ’ s and Juniors as well as their parents and hugely massive for us are the volunteers that coach and help with the smooth running of the junior club .
