Percy Park changing room and shower areas were constructed in 1998 and , despite a regular and on-going maintenance programme we knew that the area needed some work to return the same to a standard that is acceptable with the RFU and our users and persons we wish to attract to our club .
It ’ s a big project that has been generously supported by sponsors , benefactors , fund raising and Sport England . Great thanks has to be given to Crossling Ltd and Bristan who have supplied us with plumbing and sanitary wear and also to Kenmor Ceilings and Partitions Ltd . Without their help , and that of the Construction company Meldrum Construction Services Limited , what we set out to do we could never have achieved … we know who we have to thank for making the sums tally ! And in doing so we have safeguarded the clubs sustainability as a place where both senior and young people wish to participate in the game of rugby .
We have also replaced the stand roof ( leaking badly much to the chagrin of our spectators ), obtained new posts for the 1st XV pitch ( the incumbent posts were starting to show real wear and tear ) and will hopefully refurbish our bar area to create a larger area away from the function suite . Percy Park is a wellsupported rugby club and where we suffer is space however we are putting that right so as we have said before exciting times !”
Challenges / Ambitions
“ We face the same challenge all clubs face ; retaining players as so many decide to leave the game for so many different reasons that it can be a struggle , even with the strong player base we have , to meet 3rd and 4th team fixtures . With the modern world being as it is with seven day working and family pressure of young children , consideration has to be given to playing rugby outside of the standard Saturday afternoon .
Our ambitions are to return to playing National League Rugby and to ensure that the Clubhouse remains as one of North Tyneside ’ s foremost places to hire for functions , weddings and other celebrations .”
