However, Narberth RFC is more than just a rugby club and prides itself on being at the hub of the Narberth community. The Club is busy most evenings. There is Bingo on Monday nights, the Dragon Rifle Club has shooting competitions on Tuesday nights and there is a “Happy Hour” in the Members’ Bar every Friday evening. The Club hosts Pool and Darts Competitions and is used by many organisations such as the RNLI, the local WI and the Pembrokeshire Deaf Society. With the support of local people and local businesses and in particular the financial assistance provided by the Club’s current Main Sponsor, G.D.Harries & Sons, Narberth RFC hopes to provide and keep improving its facilities for the local community and for young aspiring sportsmen and women in the area and to continue to represent Narberth and Pembrokeshire at the highest level of Club rugby in Wales for many years to come. Proud sponsors of Narberth Rugby Club Telephone: 01834 844743 Address: 18 High Street, Tenby, Pembrokeshire, SA70 7HD The most challenging aspects to anyone involved in club rugby now are that to survive you have to be reasonably successful. It has become a business and yet the business is still run by people who give up their time voluntarily, and for most, after they have already done a day’s work. With more pressure at work and family commitments life has become more stressful for many and finding people who have got the time to volunteer their services is becoming more and more difficult. Also, children now have far more opportunities to try out a variety of sports and activities and whilst that is beneficial for them it often means that the commitment to stick with one sport is not always there and team numbers can diminish. The most rewarding aspects are easy to relate. Seeing children coming through the system improving their skills, keeping fit and healthy, enjoying the camaraderie that a team sport brings and if they’re lucky going on to play at Regional and International level. Also doing something which brings the community together and seeing a vibrant club with a great bunch of loyal supporters who will travel the length and breadth of Wales to support their team and town. 14 Issue 74 Call 01834 861944 for a quote or pop in NFU Mutual , Picton Terrace, Narberth, SA67 7AW Our Agents are appointed representatives of The National Farmers Union Mutual Insurance Society Limited (No. 111982). The club’s recent success has been brought about by various factors: Firstly, it’s important to have good facilities where the players can play, train and enjoy the experience both on and off the field of play. Over the years we have made a big effort in improving the clubhouse and changing rooms, the ground conditions of the pitches and a better equipped gymnasium. Secondly, good coaching is essential. We have managed to acquire the services of a group of quality coaches at senior and youth level who get the best out of the players by improving both their fitness and skills. Thirdly, good management on and off the field of play. To take note of the players and coaches opinions, views and concerns and to put things in place to improve their performance and enjoyment is paramount. In return this will bring about an ethos to represent the club to the best of their ability. Lastly, having a five year business plan to ensure financial stability and set achievable goals for the various teams and the club in general.” Robert Lewis, Club Representative
