enygraig RFC enjoyed a campaign to remember last time which saw
them crowned champions of Division 3 East Central B. Rugby Club
Magazine recently caught up with Team Manager Arfon Henderson to gain
an insight into what has been behind their success.
Involvement
He told us, “I have been involved
with the club on the rugby side
since 1981. First I covered the
first aid for the team and
helped out in any way I
could. I took over the
team manager role
in 2002 and have
been there to date.
The
most
challenging part of
my role is keeping
two sides playing
every Saturday and
helping to maintain
our
lifeline,
youth
rugby. The rewards are
seeing the three teams playing
every week and the cream on the cake
is when we gain promotion or have a

cup final, which we achieved this season
2016/17. Wonderful for everyone.”
Atmosphere
“The general mood of
the club is very high to
say the least and we
had approximately
350
supporters
travel to our final
game of the season
which
resulted
in us winning the
league (Division 3
East Central B).
The previous week
our youth side won the
Mid District East Cup for
their section so obviously the
whole club is now on a high. With
the first team as champions, the youth
success in the cup and the second team
reaching the Keith Jones Cup semi-final
it has been one of the best seasons we
have had in many a year.”
Success
“I think the key to our success is
our new setup under our new coach
and supported by our defensive and
attacking coaches. The players have
responded to our head coaches style and
this has produced a first class squad of
players who really turn it on the way
they have to.
Players look forward to training
and games with a much more positive
attitude. The coaches and players want
the same thing and that is success. We
owe our coach a very big thank you.”
