Aspull Ian Lucas started his rugby playing career as an 11-year-old at Aspull RFC, graduating to become a professional rugby league footballer for Wigan, who competed in the 1980s, and 1990s playing at representative level for Great Britain. by the likes of Mick Yates, Jimmy Walsh, Steve Bailey, Martin Jump and others has kept the club on its feet and really paid dividends last season, in particular I am really looking forward to the local derby’s with Wigan and Orrell. Ian won caps for Great Britain while at Wigan in 1991 against France, and in 1992 against Australia. He told Rugby Club Magazine, “The underlying positive culture at Aspull Rugby Club, in my opinion, is the reason the club survived some serious troubles in years gone by.
