Harlow on attracting too many new players from outside . We have plans in place to maintain the improvement in the quality of coaching at this level and to attract fresh blood from our local schools .
A specialist team , led by our Club Coaching / Co-ordinator work closely with Team Managements to ensure a smooth transition into the senior game by identifying strengths and weaknesses .”
Community
“ Harlow RUFC is very much a Community club and , indeed , a significant part of our commitments in relation to the New Ground Development is that we will strengthen these ties to the local area . Although full details are still to be finalised , our new facilities will be available to a number of local groups both sporting and otherwise .”
Facilities
“ The new ground and facilities will enable us to ensure that rugby is played at the Club every day of the week , morning to night . In addition to the club ’ s own needs , we will be hosting schools and other matches as well as extending our recently set up Walking Rugby for the Over 50 ’ s .
Currently , we have male and females Over 50 ’ s strutting their stuff on Monday evenings but we plan to extend this to include a weekly daytime session also in order to reach a wider audience .”
Challenges / Ambitions
“ Our biggest challenge will be to maintain a stable financial footing to enable us to maximise the opportunity given to us by the new facilities .
Our ambitions are to achieve and maintain Level 6 status ( London 1 ), to further develop our Youth Section , to increase Mini membership to 250 players , to ensure defined coaching development is maintained throughout the club and to ensure that we become the ‘ club of choice ’ for local players whose aspirations meet our own . We also aim to ensure that rugby union has the widest possible interest in a town up to now better known for soccer ( home of Glenn Hoddle , Darren Ambrose etc ).”
Dave Gillette is the owner of the Harlow Truck Centre . He recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive association with Harlow RFC , “ It was really through a former business partner that I first became involved as a sponsor of the club and although we are no longer together I decided to continue my support .
I am a rugby fan and know some people at the club ; it ’ s great that the teams have enjoyed such a successful season and in particular how the club have helped develop some of the young people within the local Harlow community . Myself and all the staff at The Harlow Truck Centre would like to congratulate everybody at Harlow Rugby Club on a historic season and wish everyone the very best of continued success !”
