Widden Old Boys Widden Old Boys RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB Widden Old Boys RFC is based at The Memorial Ground on Tuffley Avenue and their first team currently competes in the Gloucester 1 League. They are led by the team of Chairman David Easterbrook and President Philip Courtenay and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. Last season their first team put together a solid league campaign as they compiled a record of thirteen wins and nine defeats from their twenty two league matches. This saw them finish in a safe mid-table position with sixty two points on the board. This should provide them with a good platform from which to build as they look ahead to the 2017-18 season. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be in with a good chance of pushing on up the league. Widden Old Boys is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a number of youth sides in place. These teams look to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment while helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress over the coming years. The club is also able to boast some fine facilities with four full size pitches as well as four large changing rooms. They also have a large clubhouse and fully licensed bar for hire or for the use of its members with large projection screens available to allow for Sky TV/PC presentations/ training. As well as helping to support the social side of the club, having good quality facilities also has the potential to provide the club with a valuable source of additional revenue which is particularly important in the current financial climate. There is much to admire about the fine set up that Widden Old Boys RFC currently has in place and this is thanks to all of the hard work that has gone into making the club a success. Hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come.
