Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their Senior Team Manager Peter Trueman to find out more about the club. He told us, “I have been involved with Dinnington Rugby Club since 2002, when I returned to the game following a break of about twenty years. Unfortunately, life overtook me and I walked away from something I loved to concentrate on work and eventually my young family. “I don’t suppose the bug ever leaves you though and my interest re-ignited with the upcoming World Cup in Australia, so I decided to get my young boys into the game, to experience the things I had had and subsequently lost. “I rang three rugby clubs in the area and little realising opening times and activities, I got the answerphones at each one. I left a brief message and my number and awaited responses, not knowing what to expect. “Within the space of a couple of hours, Val Hackett (Club Steward), had responded to my call, informing me of training times and requirements. I later found out that this was her first job after opening the clubhouse, but suffice it to say, within a week with new boots and kit procured, a proud Dad was watching his 5 and 6 year old boys running around Images supplied by jansonpiersimaging.com 54 Issue 73 on a training pitch, thoroughly enjoying themselves. From those humble beginnings, both of my boys have played 1st XV rugby at Dinnington. “The most challenging aspect to my role is getting players to communicate - Friday night at 11.00pm is no time to be selecting a team! Another issue is lack of attendance at training, which can be hit and miss at best, meaning that we cannot work on important aspects of team play and results in a heavy reliance upon how the Almighty feels on that particular game day.
