I then took up coaching and refereeing and am a life member and supporter of the club.” Keith Bohr, KB Digital 42 Issue 73 “We operate an U17 Colts team that acts as the ultimate transition from the junior to senior game. We have dedicated coaches who act as the link to senior training drills, game strategy and approach and tactics i.e. calls, moves etc. Colts are included in senior training sessions to ensure integration is smooth. We have seen the success in this approach in recent years with as many as 90% of our current 1st XV and 2nd XV players having come through the junior ranks.” Community “We are a community club with most of our playing and supporting base living within a 5-mile radius of our facilities. We support local schools in coaching and refereeing activity and support local fundraising initiatives for our community. We also benefit from this reciprocal support of our events such as the Beer and Cider Festival. Our Beer and Cider Festival is open to all Club members, family and friends and the wider community. We work with local pubs to provide a wide selection of beers and ciders from different parts of the UK. We invite local bands to provide the music and entertainment, cater for children and have a BBQ. This year it was held on Saturday 8th July 2017; it will the 3rd we have held over the last three years and by far the biggest one to date. The ambition is to ultimately have a weekend festival rather than one day, maybe in a couple of years!” Challenges/Ambitions “Our biggest challenges are player retention and ensuring we maintain the numbers across junior and senior squads. With a general lack of rugby in state schools we must take responsibility for our own development and in promoting the game and our facilities in schools and youth communities. Our ambitions are to maintain and further develop our facilities, to maintain and grow our player and support base, to maintain a competitive 1st XV position in the Gloucester Premier League and to achieve promotion and maintain a competitive 1st XV position in the Weston Counties League.”
