Newcastle Emlyn FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG “I have been involved since the start. I called the first meeting in response to the enthusiasm generated by adults to my running a mini rugby programme on Saturday mornings when I returned to Emlyn after training college. The biggest challenge now is getting sponsorship and funding to run thirteen teams from 7 – 1st XV. The most rewarding thing is seeing the 1st XV play in the Championship and win some very difficult matches. The general mood at the club is one of optimism for the future and looking forward to the new season. We are most definitely a community club, with the club being used for all kinds of functions/ events, from weddings to Blood Transfusion Sessions to Vintage Vehicle Meetings. We have just purchased an extra two acres of land to extend our third pitch and training facilities and also extend our car parking. We are always looking to improve our facilities and are converting a garage into a weights room. Next year we hope to have hard core car parking for over 250 cars. Our biggest challenge will be retaining our place in the WRU Championship and our ambition is to do that and ensure our 2nd XV are successful in the new WRU Conference for 2nd XV sides.” Chris Jones, Secretary Carwyn Evans is a club sponsor of Newcastle Emlyn with his business GT Tyres. He recently told Rugby Club Magazine, “My business has been here for 22 years now and I have got to know many of the boys at the club, a lot of whom are customers of mine. It’s great that they are again doing so well as a club and myself and staff would like to wish them all continued success!” 18 Issue 73
