Kevin Thomas is as an ex
player, committee member
and is the outgoing chairman
at Newcastle Emlyn RFC.
He has been in the role as
chairman for three of the most

forty year history. He recently

John Jones is the current Vice Chairman of Newcastle
Emlyn RFC as well as being a long term sponsor with
his business John Jones Commercial Motors. He recently
spoke to Rugby Club Magazine, telling us, “I went to the
secondary school in Newcastle Emlyn and would meet up
with my friends on a Saturday night after the matches.”
“Later on my two sons stared playing junior rugby at the
club; Carwyn started in the U9s and continued up until he
was 16 when he moved to Hartpury College and will now
move on to Cardiff Met later this year to start his training to
become a sports teacher. At Hartpury he started in their 5th
team as a scrum half but the coaches identified him as an
outside half and a good planner which then propelled him
into the 2nd team.
“Gruffydd played for the under 14s last season in their front
row and is unusual in that he has very good ball handling
skills which he gained from starting previously as a scrum
half. Last but not least my daughter Sioned who only started
playing last season has enjoyed an amazing amount of
success having been chosen to play for the Scarlets U18s
and was part of the winning European side who competed
in Holland last season. Sioned plays scrum half and has
been described as a female Mike Phillips, she will also be
heading towards Hartpury.
“After becoming more associated with the club a customer
of mine, Kevin Thomas, asked if I would like to sponsor the
club which I was happy to do. Kevin then asked if I would
like to come on to the committee. At first I was a little taken

aback as I have had no great involvement with the sport
but when he explained that the club also needed business
people to help the club commercially I agreed. The rest is
history as they say and this year I am in the position of Vice
Chairman.
“I feel it is important for the club not to let things slip both
on and off the pitch and I would encourage the players to
continue to improve and for the rest of us to keep an eye
on maintaining the club commercially. Newcastle Emlyn is
a great club and has been pinpointed by the WRU as an
example to others. This has all been achieved in a short 40
years; Kevin Thomas is undoubtedly the best chairman the
club has ever had. Best wishes to everyone at the club for
many more successful seasons to come!”
