This was in no small part due to the travelling incurred by the 1st XV within the North Lancs/Cumbria league. The lack of available players to make the journeys to Cumbria had a profound knock on effect seeing the 2nd and 3rd teams leave the very successful NOWIRUL leagues due to not being able to fulfil the fixtures. Whilst relegation was avoided on the last day of the season the committee approached the county board to request a league change to help in the re-building required. Thankfully this request fell on a sympathetic ear and the transfer was granted but with it came a voluntary relegation as they entered South Lancs and Cheshire 2.
