Stockton Stockton RUGBY CLUB S tockton Rugby Club is playing a vital role in their local community and building for the future through a superb youth section. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their Secretary Keith Kelly to find out more about the good work being carried out at the club RC: How long have you been involved and what first attracted you to the club? KK: I joined Stockton Rugby Club in 1989 when I moved to the area to work. I have played at all senior levels and still represent the 3rd XV from time-to-time, but I am by no means the oldest player to be turning out regularly. I am now the Club Secretary. I was first attracted by the high standard of rugby being played at the club in the late 1980s and 1990s, but I quickly became absorbed in the social fabric. Stockton has always been a very friendly club, which has tried to involve people of all ages and from all walks of life. RC: What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your role? KK: The most challenging part of being on the club committee is the ever increasing workload as the club grows. We can never have enough volunteers, because there is always something else to do or another project to take on. Most of us also have full time jobs and families to look after. It is, however, fantastically rewarding when you see youngsters you have coached or played with from a young age, emerge into the Senior Teams and become the players you always hoped they would. www.rugbyclubmag.com 35
