It has been quite a season for Carrick Rugby Club with their first team
winning the BT Shield. The club is about far more than just a successful
first team however and we recently caught up with Stuart Birnie to gain an
insight into the work that has gone into making them a success.
This Season
He told us, “The atmosphere here is
absolutely fantastic at the moment. The
senior XV have just won the BT Shield
again, the U15 girls got to a national
final this season and the school won their
Conference. When you consider the size

of some of the schools in the conference
and their rugby traditional it really
illustrates what a fantastic achievement
this is.
Winning at Murrayfield last season
was a fantastic achievement and one we
wanted to replicate this year. Mid-season
we had a blip which ultimately cost us
the league but since then the team has
played incredibly well and is unbeaten
in 2017.”
