Our minis are regularly out in the community, fundraising and developing the profile of the club.” Community Challenges/Ambitions “I would say we are a community club. We don’t just host rugby. Like many others, we open our facilities to other community groups like a carnival club, a pre-school, a football team, a vintage car “The first challenge for us will be to cement our place in a higher division while we develop and prepare for an assault on another league title or promotion. As a small club, we’ll have the challenge of retaining our best players as bigger clubs around us will no doubt be looking to recruit one or two, while the additional travelling requirements of a higher league may make availability for away games more difficult for those that work on a weekend. In terms of our infrastructure, we seriously need to look at the installation of better floodlights and the development of our match-day offer for spectators.” Royston Grimstead has had a long and positive association with Morganians RFC as a player, chairman, captain and sponsor with his business HEAAL. He recently told Rugby Club magazine, “I am a local lad and it was through my brother Paul that I first became involved at Morganians. Paul played front row rugby for the club up until a few years back and although he no longer plays I have continued on. My main position is no.8 however I have played 2nd row this season. Our team changed drastically around three years ago when three quarters of our team were replaced by our youth players. It was only going to be a matter of time before our younger players developed and this has really paid off now. Somerset 1 is naturally going to be a tougher challenge than this season so realistically I feel a good result would be mid table but who knows what will happen. The main thing is that the team remain positive and if and when things don’t go our way we pick ourselves up and play to the final whistle. Congratulations to everyone at Morganians on a brilliant season!“ 50 Issue 71
