RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
I
t has been a season to remember for Rhydyfelin RFC with their first team
claiming a league title and plenty of other success around the club as well.
Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with club representative Dillan Phillips
to gain an insight into their success.
This Season
He told us, “The players are jubilant
at the moment and the supporters are
behind the teams 100%. It’s a fantastic
feeling among everyone associated with
the club. We are more than pleased with
the attitude, commitment and desire
from all the players.
The youth have enjoyed a great
season narrowly missing and the 2nds
again came second in their league but
secured a fine win in the Mel Davies
Cup against Caerphilly. We are very
pleased and proud of the achievement
the players, coaches and committee have
contributed to this season.”
I think the keys to our success have
been hard work, commitment and

respect. I believe the club is offering a
family orientated atmosphere where
players’ wives and children can interact
and socialise. This group of players play
for the badge and their motto this year
has been #matesnotmoney.”
Youth
“Youth rugby is very important to us;
we have had some great talent that has
emerged over the last few seasons now
playing for our senior section. The youth
development plan we have has made a
huge impact and we hope it continues.
We develop our youth players firstly
to enjoy playing, we offer them a chance
to play in their preferred position and
where necessary guide them into a role
where our experienced coaches feel they
would be more suited.
We have bonding days that allow the
younger players to mix with the senior
players by having teams in tug of war,
touch rugby and general games etc. We
also have our annual pantomime where
members of all teams get involved. The
older players in their last year are brought
into the senior squads and developed
towards senior rugby.”
Community
“We are most definitely an important
part of the local area; we have a chess
club from which the community play
twice a week, we offer our facilities to
