speed and cohesion in attack ; tenacity , strength and organisation in defence .

A major feature of this championship winning and record breaking squad is that the majority of players in the first team ‘ pool ’, 21 out of the 30 chosen through the season , are products of Kirkby ’ s Mini and Youth system .

Selection from within is the ethos of the Club and the young boys who first touched a rugby ball as minis and youths of the Kirkby system are the men of the 1st XV squad today which has at its heart their long-established bond and brotherhood team spirit .

The Mini and Youth organisation , now over thirty years old and numbering around four hundred members , is one of the oldest and largest such organisations in the North West of England and the backbone of the Club . A credit to all concerned producing over the years players of County , Regional and International standard at junior level and it is the body from which continuing generations of first team players emerge .

But , at this level it stretches the mini and youth organisation , the small Town of Kirkby Lonsdale and its surrounding rural areas to produce a complete and competitive first team squad and outside help is always welcome .

In this way the Club welcomes UK players who move to the area and those from overseas who choose the Club as their rugby destination . This season they have players from New Zealand , Argentina and South Africa and in past seasons the aforementioned together
