Long Buckby RFC have enjoyed a fine campaign this time around which
culminated in them winning promotion. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up
with club representatives Steve Dickinson and Daniel Fair to gain an insight into
what has been behind their success.
They told us, “The atmosphere here is buzzing and on
a well-earned high following our promotion. We secured
promotion into Midlands 2, everyone stuck together from
committee members, coaches, players and social members,
everyone worked hard to make it possible, but credit to the
players who continued to believe and kept going when the
chips were down.”
“There have been many factors behind our success; having
a young and enthusiastic senior squad willing to achieve their
goals, by changing the way we play rugby (back to basics) –
everyone wants to have the skills of a professional but as
amateur players, champagne rugby is not achievable if you can’t
do the basics well. On the field efforts have received constant
support from those behind the scenes. I think it would be unfair
to suggest any one factor on its own made us successful, but a
great effort by the whole Club has made it possible.
“We have big plans going forward into the 17/18 season.
We realise that going up a league will require a lot more work
and commitment. Fitness and physicality will play a big part;
we have the skills to compete.
