Gary Brain of club sponsor JJ Siga recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive association with Avonvale RFC . “ Both my sons started as 6 year olds at Avonvale , Harrison who is now 21 and Louis who is 19 . Although both boys competed up to the ages of 16 and 14 they no longer play .

Louis still attends some matches and has an interest in the club and is probably the most likely to re-engage with the sport . I have coached the younger teams all the way up to the current colts team and now , ten years later , we can really see the fruits and how they have grown . It has been a very enjoyable journey and not necessarily a goal that was mapped out to achieve .
Avonvale is an excellent family club with many members who go beyond the call of duty . Congratulations has to go to everyone involved at the club not only on a great season but also in creating a space which attracts anyone wishing to try the sport and for parents who have natural trepidation about bringing their children along ; I know Avonvale deal with this exceptionally well .
Our recent tour to Tamworth was the first where both fixtures were won . The facilities at the club are being addressed and with the continued dedication of those involved many bright days lay ahead for our club !” turn have helped us generate revenue to develop rugby at the club further .”
2017
“ We are planning a NatWest Rugby Force day on the 24th June and will be recruiting volunteers to help with improvement activities in and around the clubhouse . We are also looking to get regular 2nd XV fixtures set up with other Bath Combination clubs to ensure there is an avenue for everyone to play rugby in either a league or social format .”
Youth
“ Our success today has come from the development of players through the age grades and transitioning from youth rugby into the senior XV . We have worked hard to build relationships with the youth and senior teams before the transition takes place to ensure we retain as many players from our youth set-up as possible .”
Community
“ We are renowned within the Bath Combination as one of the best community clubs ; we have a great social scene and are now mirroring this on the pitch as well . We run events during the summer that we open to the local villages and encourage them to enter teams into our fun events .”
Challenges / Ambitions
“ If we continue to grow at the rate we have this season we could out grow our facilities and we may need to look at building a more permanent expansion of our changing facilities to accommodate the ever growing number of players across the age spectrum . We are aiming to establish teams at every age grade and get a second senior XV fielding a team every week .”
