is an enjoyable place to be in. The parents are becoming more
engaged in the activities that are required to facilitate rugby
at the club which makes it more enjoyable for all concerned.”
Atmosphere
“The club is the most vibrant I have seen for many years
both on and off the pitch. Winning the league has been a real
boost for us and this is also reflected in the age grade rugby
where all of the teams appear to be very buoyant albeit we are
always looking for more players to join us at all ages. Social
events have been well supported and we have had some sell
out events such as the St Patricks day party which was open to
both club members and local villagers.”
This Season
“The minis have run some very successful tournaments
and have received praise from the visiting teams as well as
teams on tour from further afield. The coaches at all of the
age grades and the senior teams have worked hard to make
training and playing enjoyable for the players and they have
been well supported by parents, friends and club members.”
Success
“The coaching staff have worked really hard to create
a team spirit both on and off the pitch and they have been
ably supported by the committee and the many volunteers
throughout the season. The players have responded in a
positive manner and have supported the social events which in
Paul Kettlety of Rathbourne Ltd recently spoke to
Rugby Club Magazine about his positive association
with Avonvale RFC, “It was really through my sons
that I became involved with Avonvale. George and
Diddy both started as five year olds with George now
continuing his rugby as a 16 year old playing in the
position of prop and Diddy who is 14 plays flanker.
The boys have really developed their rugby through
the excellent tutelage at the club and when I moved
to Sydney, Australia a few years back they had no
problem in continuing their rugby involvement there.
I can’t speak highly enough about the club who offer
a level playing field to anyone locally who wishes to
participate. Martin Bath, his wife Jane and Chris to
name a few are great ambassadors for the club and
last year when I was approached about sponsoring
the senor sides I naturally jumped at the chance. The
seniors unbeaten run has been outstanding and offers
the younger players something to aspire to.
Avonvale Rugby Club tick all of the important boxes
for me through the excellent people who are running
things down there and perhaps they can look to reward
themselves with more investment in their facilities and
clubhouse. Congratulations on everyone at the club,
keep up the great work!”
