Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with Club Chair Martin Bath to find out more. Involvement He told us, “I have been a member of Avonvale RFC for over thirty eight years now and first started as an U15 playing for the colts team. I joined the club as it was local to me and several of my school friends had already joined and told me what a great club it was.” The Role “As Chairman, I have to field many different aspects of running; the 10 Issue 71 challenging areas are around player retention and recruitment. As a club we have a great social side and it has been difficult to bring this success on to the playing field, however this season with the hard work of the coaching staff and players we have won every league game except for one which we drew. We have already secured the league and promotion to Dorset & Wilts 1 North. Some of the administration imposed on us by the RFU can be frustrating at times especially as our ethos within the club has been to promote the playing of rugby for everyone irrespective of age or ability. It has been especially pleasing this season to have fielded a 2nd Senior XV on several occasions, something we hope to continue and grow next season.” Committee “I am particularly proud that we now have a committee of members who are very hardworking and volunteer a huge amount of their time to ensure we have a welcoming environment that supports the development of rugby and
