Corporation for National Community Service , Senior Corps , and RSVP programs ? - Final

I was recently asked , “ What is the Corporation for National Community Service ( CNCS ) and what is its connection to the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program ( RSVP )?” It ’ s at this point I realized that RSVP has been in Dubuque for so long that its history and origin have been lost . So this year we will explore the RSVP program through 4 articles : Past parts 1 & 2 ; Current ; and Future .
Future : The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program ( RSVP ) is in year 1 of a 3 year federal grant . Each grant cycle the Corporation for National Community Service reviews the outcomes of the program and fine tunes them for the next 3 year cycle . This cycle the goal is to improve the impact of each focus area .
Dubuque RSVP will continue to focus on Healthy Futures . We seek to strengthen these programs by increasing the number of volunteers serving in Healthy Futures and looking for additional programs to support the goal of assisting seniors to remain healthy and in their homes .
RSVP will continue to strengthen and expand its Disaster Preparedness role in Dubuque County by building a strong Volunteer Reception Center . This early recovery component of natural disasters is essential to organize unaffiliated volunteers , connect them with opportunities throughout the county , and record their service .
We will continue to support Environmental Stewardship , Education and Capacity Building .
Finally , RSVP is interested in implementing a new program to record life reflection stories . This program is seeking volunteers that are interested in recording their own stories and / or assisting others to record their story . Volunteers would be trained and guided through the process of how to frame a story and work with others to draw out their histories .
If you are interested in supporting a new or additional program please contact RSVP at 563-589-2622 . Please help us to connect with new volunteers and get the word out that we need volunteers .
