about the mythical 24 hours of Spa. This
true master stroke was also the first time
they competed in the top car class, reserved
only for Pros. Also, atop the podium for the
first time was Tom Blomqvist (son of the
legendary 1984 World Rally Champion Stig
Blomqvist) and his team-mate Christian
Krognes. They were joined also by Philipp
Eng, although he had already topped the
podium previously in 2016. This race was
also the first time that Bernard Delhez, a
local Belgian driver, joined the ending
ceremonies with his second place in the AM
Cup category.
#3 Looking beyond these traditional top
three places at the podium, the National
Group Class was occupied by just one
team, the only survivor in their class at the
finish of the race. This quartet, composed
of local driver Grégory Paisse and his
faithful companions (Pierre Yves Paque,
Bob Wilwert and Gilles Petit) are not to be
forgotten! Behind the wheel of a Porsche
991 Cup car, this was their third time
participating in the category, and second
consecutive win. Conversely, number three
wasn’t so lucky for team WRT, losing
the pole position achieved by driver Dris
Vanthoor due to a three minute penalty on
a car compliance issue, and therefore any
further chance of victory in the race.
#24 It was during this 24 hours of Spa race
that manufacturer BMW had its twenty-
fourth success in the Belgian Ardennes.
History recalls that the very first was
obtained in 1965, in a BMW 1800 driven
by duo Pascal Ickx and Gérard Langlois
van Ophem. Not to be outdone, younger
brother Jacky Ickx followed the next year
with a win in a BMW 2000ti.

Endurance Serie, und das nicht nur bei
irgendeinem Rennen, denn es handelt sich
um die mythischen 24 Stunden von Spa.
Diese wahre Meisterleistung war auch
das erste Mal in der Königsklasse, die nur
für Profis reserviert ist. Erstmals auf dem
Podium standen auch Tom Blomqvist
(Sohn des legendären Rallye-Weltmeisters
von 1984, Stig Blomqvist) und sein
Teamkollege Christian Krognes. Mit dabei
war auch Philipp Eng, der bereits 2016
das Podium erobert hatte. Es war auch
das erste Mal, dass Bernard Delhez, ein
einheimischer belgischer Pilot, mit seinem
zweiten Platz in der Kategorie AM Cup an
der Abschlusszeremonie teilnahm.
#3 Über diese traditionellen drei ersten
Plätze auf dem Podium hinaus wurde die
National Group Class von nur einem Team
besetzt, dem einzigen Überlebenden in
seiner Klasse im Ziel des Rennens. Dieses
Quartett, bestehend aus dem lokalen Fahrer
Grégory Paisse und seinen treuen Begleitern
(Pierre Yves Paque, Bob Wilwert und Gilles
Petit), darf nicht vergessen werden! Hinter
dem Steuer eines Porsche 991 Cup Autos
war dies das dritte Mal in der Kategorie
und der zweite Sieg in Folge. Im Gegensatz
dazu hatte die Nummer drei für das Team
WRT nicht so viel Glück und verlor die
Pole-Position von Fahrer Dris Vanthoor
durch eine dreiminütige Strafe wegen
einer Regelwidrigkeit und verlor damit die
Chance auf einen Sieg.

24-Stunden-
Rennens in Spa hatte der Hersteller BMW
seinen vierundzwanzigsten Erfolg in den
belgischen Ardennen. Die Geschichte
erinnert an die allerersten Erfolge im Jahr
1965 in einem BMW 1800, der mit dem
Duo Pascal Ickx und Gérard Langlois van
Ophem besetzt war. Nicht zu unterschätzen
ist der jüngere Bruder Jacky Ickx, der im
darauffolgenden Jahr mit einem Sieg im
BMW 2000ti folgte.
