What brought the Nürburgring to your attention?
I’m unashamed to say that for me, it was a mix of two
things: the Top Gear TV show and Gran Turismo on
the Playstation. Watching Clarkson try the Ring in
the Jag back in 2004, then Hammond trying out the
van challenge in 2005 must have stirred something
inside of me. The most difficult track in the world?
Sounds interesting. Couple that with a particularly
nasty “licence” challenge in 2004’s Gran Turismo 4
that had me looking up guides on “how to drive the
ring”, just for a computer game (I passed it by the
way, with gold!). Was hat dich auf den Nürburgring aufmerksam
gemacht? Ich schäme mich nicht dafür zu sagen, dass
es für mich eine Mischung aus zwei Dingen war: die
Top Gear TV-Show und Gran Turismo auf der Play-
station. Als ich sah, wie Clarkson 2004 den Ring im
Jaguar getestet hat und Hammond, der die Van-He-
rausforderung 2005 gefahren ist, löste das wohl
etwas in mir aus. Die schwierigste Strecke der Welt?
Klingt interessant. Dazu kommt eine besonders böse
„Lizenz“-Herausforderung im Gran Turismo 4 von
2004, bei der ich nur für ein Computerspiel (ich
habe sie übrigens mit Gold bestanden!) Guides zum
Thema „Wie man den Ring fährt“ gesucht habe.
Or maybe you’re cooler than me. Maybe you’re a
long time petrol head who had driven on circuit after
circuit only to look for the next greatest challenge.
Maybe you brought your race-prepped, track-tuned
hardcore car all the way from southern Europe
because your friends told you about this secret race
track that only enthusiasts knew about. Back when
you would pay a few Deutschmarks to the man at the
then T13 public entrance?
Oder vielleicht bist du cooler als ich. Vielleicht bist
du ein langjähriger Autofreak, der eine Runde nach
der anderen gefahren ist, nur um nach der nächst
größeren Herausforderung zu suchen. Vielleicht hast
du dein rennfertiges, streckenabgestimmtes Hard-
coreauto den ganzen Weg aus Südeuropa mitge-
bracht, weil deine Freunde dir von dieser geheimen
Rennstrecke erzählt haben, von der nur Enthusiasten
