“I’m a Daughter of The King and through Him I can do
anything,” said Mikayla, a five year-old Princess who
loves drawing, swimming, giggling, and lollipops.
Mikayla participates in the Diamonds In Development
(DIDS) program at Diamond In The Rough (DITR). Her
mother, Camille, said she enrolled Mikayla in the program because of the values DITR teaches the girls.
“I knew she would get that, and that she would continue to learn about God,” Camille said. “I wanted her to
come to DITR for the socialization, and for the character
development.”
Mikayla is in her second year with DITR, and at such a
young age, she’s already learning what it means to be a
Princess.
“[It’s] being courageous, bold, and powerful,” said Mi42 | Royal & Radiant Magazine
kayla, who added that she loves coming on Saturdays to
read books, do crafts, and see her “diamond teachers.”
In addition to making friends, Mikayla added she has
learned more about God, good manners, and how to be
a good friend. “If somebody falls down, you can help
them get back up,” Mikayla said.
The DIDS member said she loves learning at school,
playing soccer, making cards for her family and friends,
and learning Spanish. She also loves getting treats with
her dad and playing sight word bingo with her mom.
She added that a Princess does not whine or have temper tantrums.
To any girl who doesn’t feel like a Princess, Mikayla
said, “you’re a Daughter of The King, and through Him,
you can do anything . . . like be a ballerina, a singer, or a
dancer.”
