RFM Lifestyle • Marcos Costa Hoping to Spin WNFR Gold MARCOS COSTA Written by Lori O'Harver There’s a new household name among the cowboys of Brazil. When Marcos Costa backs into the roping box and nods for his first calf, he’ll do it as the cowboy everybody is trying to catch. He’ll do it with a good horse under him, countless hours of practice and hard work behind him and all of the determination to be the first Brazilian tie down roper to win a PRCA world championship in front of him. “I feel so blessed to have this chance to go in there and give it my best for 10 rounds,” said Costa. “Just qualifying is a dream come true. There are no words to explain how I’m feeling right now.” Costa will be riding his 8-year-old mare, Paraguia, he purchased in the United States last winter. As a team, they’ve won $125,523.11 in regular season competition, $16,983.94 ahead of Timber Moore who starts his post season run number two in the standings. “Paraguia is easy to rope on and really consistent,” Costa said. “She’s been a blessing, too.” As WNFR watching parties gather in Brazil, Marcos Costa has this advice for aspiring young ropers who dream of following in the boot steps of their newest hero: Be a good person, give God all of the credit, work hard all of the time and be humble. Those are the words of a champion no matter who the gold goes home with. 42 www.rodeofame.com
