PAGE 16 LANCE KING Interview by Tom Mathers Rocknation: Hello Lance and welcome to Rocknation. Let’s start off with you know so many musicians from over the years, how did you decide who would contribute on your solo release “A Moment in Chiros”? Lance: I just asked some people I had never written with, that I’d always enjoyed what they created to write some songs with me, it was pretty strait forward, I let everyone know the concept, let them hear a track that I’d almost finished so they could get a taste of the direction… Mapped out what each song would be about, and then asked people musicians to write with a certain “FEEL” in mind, for this album. Rocknation: Please tell us about the writing and recording process of “A Moment in Chiros”. Lance: I asked everyone to write with a Led Zeppelin feel, and In two weeks those that wanted to be a part of it has ideas to me (actually enough to do two full albums), I cherry picked the ones I liked the best that didn’t sound too much alike, and we were off to the races. Was really a cool process, because I was working with so many writers each song came together a lot faster. In some situations, later on I may opt to add a chorus part, or change an arrangement of a song, and Kim Olesen (Anubis Gate) and I would do this to get it to flow with the over all album. No one person other than Kim heard any of the other songs until the album was finished, just what we were working on together. It was a lot of fun, and because of this idea, I was able to write, record and have the album mixed and mastered in just 3 months from start to finish. Rocknation: How did you find time to write and record when your so busy with your label Nightmare Records and have a family. Lance: That is always the challenge man, I’m a bit of a workaholic anyway, so I’m always doing something, the wife and kids seem to get that, we have scheduled out some times where that is only family time. And I would just fit the rest in when I would normally be working. Most of it was email communication or Skype, ROCKNATION ISSUE 21 and it wouldn’t be all that different from the daily grind I do anyway :). Rocknation: You’ve been doing a radio show for awhile now, how has that helped your label? Lance: It’s helped quite a bit actually, many of the artist I sign are new bands and few people have heard their music, it gives me a venue to get it out there and have people find fresh stuff, they would normally never hear. For those of you that want to find out more about that, look up “THE STELLAR HOUR OF PROGRESSIVE POWER” Rocknation: What plans do you have for 2014 any shows,? Lance: At the moment, nothing is on the books, my goal is, to finish up an album I’m working on right now with Aussie’s ILIUM and then write and record a new solo album. The idea is the next solo album is ready to hit, I want to tour the world, for about 3-4 months. Rocknation: Thank you for taking time for this interview and last words to the fans?
