Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History

(February 28, 2010)

If there wasn’t Heligoland, I would call Two Door Cinema Club the bomb of the year. They got to people through word of mouth, they shot colourful “Undercover Martin” video, and yes, it’s one of my favourite 2010’s videos so far and TDCC are one of my new favourite bands. Definitely MUST LISTEN.

Gorillaz - Plastic Beach (March 3, 2010)

A few years ago Damon Albarn announced Gorillaz are “splitting up”. But hey, a new record! Trip hop and hip hop are still there. And despite the last one, I really like the sound. Empire Ants reminds me of Royksopp. The whole atmosphere in the album is taking you away. They became more electro, going away from rock music but still, it’s Gorillaz!

Now say ah... I DID. Because the vocal of Peter Hayes is one of my favourites. I can surely say they have a unique sound. “Beat The Devil’s Tattoo” is something between original BRMC sound and the mix of Velvet Underground and Kasabian. You can also feel it when first listening to the record. It’s not the rock’n’roll the band did in “Take Them On, On Your Own” or in “Baby 81” but of course, it’s one of the best records the band has ever done.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Beat The Devil’s Tattoo (March 5, 2010)

The biggest disappointment. And yes, I put it in editor’s pick. Either I don’t understand this duo anymore or they did a pretty lame album. I wasn’t able to remember ANY of the melodies on the record. I think I need some time, oh please!
