Then they forced themselves inside, took the ring
off Vera's finger and tied her and the foreman with
a lamp cord inside the house within minutes. They
also stole a camera, a pistol, and around $700,000
($6,000,000 now) in cash.
Six weeks after the robbery, a detective in New Jersey
heard that a grocer was was trying to sell a large diamond.
The man was immediately found and he led agents to
one of the three thieves. The diamond was discovered
in the lining of a coat. Two baguette diamonds, also
taken from the ring, were later found in a jewelry store in
St. Louis. Thanks to the diligent work of the FBI, Vera
Krupp could have her most beloved ring re-set.
