SHREWSBURY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS U13 BOYS SCORE BISAC BLING On Saturday 25th April Shrewsbury’s U13 Boys Volleyball team headed to International Community School to compete against seven of the best teams in the league for the coveted BISAC title Having only lost one regular season game to NIST, the team headed into the tournament as one of the leading contenders to lift the trophy. Despite this, early tournament nerves were on show in the opener against BPS, and a narrow 2 point loss on the third set inflicted an early setback on the team’s title hopes. However, the next three games were a different story as the team gradually began to find their rhythm. As they relaxed into their natural game, they started to have more fun, and began to play like the coaches knew that they could! Consecutive victories in games 2,3 and 4 against ICS, HIS, and finally NIST paved the way to the tournament final, where they would have the chance to avenge their earlier loss against BPS. With the boys now playing with more confidence, the return match was a different story altogether, with Shrewsbury’s athletes in green and gold wrapping up the match in 2 quick-fire sets, and securing the tournament trophy in the process. This was a fantastic result for Shrewsbury, and a great sign for the future. For many of the athletes it was also their first time playing volleyball in a competitive tournament environment, making these results all the more impressive! Special thanks goes out to all of the parents who supported their children throughout the season and to Coach Mee and Coach Nick for their enthusiastic and knowledgeable support. RIN’S PODIUM RUN ROLLS ON: SHREWSBURY’S SUPER SKATER: At the end of April, Rin (6DB) finished 3rd in the division and 1st for her age group in the Thanyapura SuperKidz Triathlon, Phuket. Year 3 student Jeffie (3KH) travelled to Hong Kong to compete in the 2015 Mega Ice Hockey 5’s Championships. Jeffie produced a sizzling performance for his team, Central Rama 9 based outfit, the Canster Rangers. Jeffie was ice-cold in front of goal, notching 7 scores and 1 assist. He ended the tournament ranked the 5th best player in the whole minisquirt division, and, in his first international outing for the team, also netted Canstar’s Most Valuable Player award.
