The Ultimate Beading
Assistant...
I learned the hard way, as usual ... Ever spill your counted beads all over the the floor? How about a
hard surface floor in a room full of furniture when you had a birthday party deadline in 1 hour? It was
one of those ‘what was I thinking?’ moments. I found my beads all over the place during the next
week and had to resort to plan B to get to the birthday party, finished and on time!
Meet Deidre Pyatte, fellow beader and owner of Bead On It Boards! She kindly consented to the
following interview for those RitzyToo readers who have not had the opportunity to get acquainted
yet. Once you see this quick demonstration of a Bead On It Board in use, you’ll understand why one
acclaimed beading professional said,
My essential beading tool is my Bead On It Board,
because I love the surface, the round and padded edges,
and the round shape because there are no corners
on which I can catch my beading thread!

Q. 1. How did you first come up with the Bead On It Boards concept?
A. Necessity is the Mother of Invention! In my day when I first learned to bead the only thing was a
ceramic egg cup holder to sort of scoop beads, and I thought, ‘there must be a better way’! When
the Native American / Canadian Elders came to my office, they always had their beadwork wrapped
in fabrics and beaded on the fabrics, and very important beadworks were always wrapped in velvet.
At the time I was a Talent Agent for Native American Actors, one of the Elders asked me to learn to
bead, she said it was to use the side of my brain that I had not used much, to oblige I learned. She
taught me the importance of the beads, what the colors and numbers mean, many things that are not
in books. However, I thought if I had to do this I was not going to chase the beads!!
