Transforming the Eyes of Hope

What do I see when I look into the eyes of my canine friend? As my feet take those first few steps into the house, his face is alive with joy along with that entire body wagging. Occasionally, he might be startled by a strange and unfamiliar sound, but his eyes communicate trust as he observes no reaction on my part. I always notice

unconditional love no matter the circum-

stances. However, what do I perceive when I look into a shelter dog’s eyes? As he looks up longingly with sadness then hope, he might be wondering if I’ll be the person to take him with me to provide a caring forever home.

Who are the people out there connecting shelter and homeless dogs with their forever homes?

In 2013, Executive Director, Joann Reagan, Michaeline Veden, and three other animal lovers established NorCal Cocker Rescue Group. They are experienced and dedicated animal welfare volunteers.

NorCal Cocker Rescue is based in Sacramento and serves

the greater Northern California area. NorCal works

with public shelters to place at risk Cocker Spaniels and Spaniel mixes into loving forever homes. They also serve as a resource regarding the unique needs of the Cocker Spaniel breed.

As of 2018, Joann and Michaeline have continued their incredible and dedicated journey with NorCal Cocker Rescue. Almost 500 dogs’ lives have been changed considerably and given that beautiful second chance at life because of their rescue efforts. Can you imagine the resources required in hours of fundraising, budgeting and tracking expenditures, transporting dogs, veterinary visits, finding foster homes and volunteers, as well as hosting various pet events?

But, the beautiful and heartwarming results can be seen through the eyes of the dogs who have found their devoted forever families.
