Trust is the key to a lot of things in life.
Building strong relationships requires
trust. In order to feel safe, we need to
trust the sun is going to rise every day.
Trusting ourselves is critical to our ability
to thrive, yet so many of us don’t trust
ourselves. It can be quite a journey to
find self-trust in a world that encourages
us to look outside ourselves for all
answers.
Trust for self happens in layers. We can
trust part of ourselves and be almost
totally unaware of how we don’t trust
ourselves in other areas. For example, we
can trust our abilities in work and excel
at what we do and yet not trust our
feelings at all. Of course not trusting
feelings is common in western culture.
Trusting our inner guidance system is
also trained out of us. Yes, some learned
early to trust their intuition, but many
have been encouraged to completely
ignore their inner guidance system. I was
one of those.
Yesterday I had the experience of seeing
the face of God in a young
man walking down the
street in San Francisco.
He looked to be homeless,
but he had a beautiful
introspective look on his
face. As I approached him
I was struck with the
powerful notion that the
Divine was present. It
nearly brought me to my
knees, tears pooled in my
eyes and my breath
stuttered. My inner critic
stepped in to pronounce I was just
making things up. But I consciously
countered with I trust my inner life! I
“knew” my experience was true. My
feelings had a great deal to do with that.
My whole body shivered with awe. The
moment eventually passed as they always
do, but I chose to give it the gravity it
deserved. This was a total confirmation of
an earlier moment on the train as I
reflected about my life and came to the
conclusion I love my inner life and it is
the most powerful part of me! I shed
another layer of doubt in this moment.
God answered soon after.
My life is a journey of coming home to
Self, to trusting my inner world more and
more and being rewarded by moments
like these. This includes trusting my body
and senses, my emotions, and the Divine
knowing arising from my roots. Trust is
the key to unlock the magic.
This world of humanity is so often
deceptive. We pretend that we can tear
reality apart into real and not real. The
“not real” expressed derisively into a phrase like it’s just your imagination. We insist imagination is not included in the whole of reality. Yes, our egos are deceptive and we must also learn to navigate through our inner world, which includes ego. However, it is possible to become compassionately aware of the difference between Divine Imagination and the ego’s need for safety and control. This is part of our soul’s path towards growth.
