Refresh Your Summer with Oils!

There is so much to love about summer! Long, lazy days, the warmth of the sun, catching up on reading, picnics at the park, playing at the beach, outdoor music concerts, quality time spent with family and friends. And so many ways to use Essential Oils during summer to add to your fun.

Essential Oils are powerful plant medicines. They are volatile aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of plants. These aromatic compounds help protect the plant from injury and allow it to heal — and they do the same in our bodies!

Essential Oils affect us both physically and emotionally depending on their chemical composition. Some of the benefits of Essential Oils include:

• Relaxing the body and calming the mind

• Soothing sore muscles

• Increasing clarity and ability to focus

• Aiding in building a strong immune system

• Energizing the body and uplifting mood

• Increasing metabolism and improving digestion

• Improving sleep

Essential Oils are one of the quickest, most effective ways I have found to shift my energy. You can use them three different ways: aromatically, topically and internally.

When the weather is hot, one of my favorite ways to use Essential Oils is to make a cooling spray with water, witch hazel and Essential Oils. I keep this spray in the refrigerator for extra cooling power. It’s easy to make and so refreshing.

Citrus Bliss Spray
1 T Witch Hazel
5 drops Wild Orange + 4 drops Peppermint Essential Oil Distilled Water to fill a 4 oz glass spray bottle

Put Witch Hazel and Essential Oils in glass bottle with sprayer top. Fill spray bottle to the top with Distilled Water, shake well and enjoy.

During the summer, ants are a pesky bug that seem to show up as soon as you unfold the picnic blanket.

Insect Repellant

To keep these pests away, take Peppermint Essential Oil and a few cotton balls with you. Ants hate the scent of Peppermint so adding just a drop or two of Peppermint Essential Oil to cotton balls and placing them around your picnic area will deter these little pests.

And what’s better on a hot summer day than fresh lemonade? Here’s a delicious recipe for this summertime treat.

Lavender Lemonade

1 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice 1/2 cup local honey

1 drop Lavender Essential Oil

2 drops Lemon Essential Oil

6 1/2 cups water
