A Story of Cherries, Pits, Grace, and Grit

“If life is a bowl of cherries,” my favorite humorist and philosopher Erma Bombeck asks the question, “what am I doing in the pits?”

Do you ever feel that way?

I’d like to suggest a few simple strategies to savor the cherries, receive the wisdom in the lessons of the pits, and all while persevering with grace and grit.

Rewrite your story to reframe your obstacle as an opportunity

When I decided I was going to go back to school to earn my college degree, my advisor didn’t think I’d be able to handle the curriculum of a reporter. You see, I was a mature 30-year-old married woman and he didn’t have faith that this little housewife could stick it out for the long term. Little did he know that not only would I complete my degree, I’d use my natural curiosity about people and make it my mission to help others discover the stories they are not telling for the next 30-years. I believe your story matters and someone is waiting to hear your story.
